Buying Nice Wine Gifts For Someone Special

By Mark Ferguson

Wine has always been a great gift to give, especially for the holidays when more toasts are given than any other time of year. Selecting the right wine may be tricky sometimes if you are buying for someone who you don't well enough to know their favorite, but there are always excellent wine gifts for just such an instance.

Does the person you have in mind for a gift of wine have a particular favorite kind of wine? If you don't know, you can usually get a brand that is generally popular that your person would enjoy. Most people who receive wine gifts re simply happy for your gesture. The better the wine would be a bonus.

Since there are times when there is a calling for red wine and then there are other times when there is a need for white wine, your best bet is to include both in your gift. White and red wines are different in that white wine isn't able to be aged as long as red wine is.

White wine can't be aged as long as red wines can be due to the ingredient tannin. Tannin is present in the skin of the grapes used to make wine and the red has more to add the red color. For a light occasion, you may want to choose a light white wine that can be drank right away and for the really special occasions, like Christmas or anniversaries, you should choose a nice red wine of decent vintage.

Wine gifts can be just a decorated bag with a pricy bottle of Chteau Margaux in it. This bottle of wine says it all to the receiver of it as a gift, considering that a'95 vintage would go for about $400 dollars. You don't have to spend this much, however, to get a good vintage and tasty wine. You can shop for some wine to make as a one bottle gift that would mean just as much as the Chteau Margaux. You can purchase a bottle of 2004 vintage Chardonnay that will have the same effect as one of the best wine gifts you could give.

A wine basket is a great idea because you can put in not only red and white wines, but you can add some other neat items to round off the basket. These items could be wine glasses and a corkscrew to make a complete wine drinking set. This would be a really nice gift for anyone.

If you would like to give a little more than just the wine, why not give the snacks that will accent the wine? You could choose a variety of cheeses, sausages, and smoked fish to add into the basket. You could also add in some really great candy to eat after wine. You could add cookies and chocolate covered pretzels too.

If you aren't the creative type, maybe it would be easier for you to buy a wine basket with everything already in it. As far as wine gifts go, this is one of the best you could give. These pre made baskets are really nice and some contain some neat snacks that will go perfectly with wine. You can find these baskets on line.
