Recent Developments In Brochure Printing

By Jason Clark

Brochures have always been one of the most important marketing tools for any organization. They can be distributed by hand or by post to clients, or can just be placed on cash counters of stores. The need to have brochures printed has resulted in the rise of a segment of the printing services industry, which specifically caters to brochures. Advancements like digital technology, graphic design tools, and the internet have radically transformed the traditional mould of brochure printing.

At a time when computers had not yet been used in brochure printing, the entire thing was a tedious exercise involving use of plate-making machines and film negatives, and the particular tasks involved taking multiple test prints, changing all the settings, and what not. Even in design, the customers could not offer personal suggestions and the printers usually took care of the design job, working with a restricted set of pre decided templates.

Nowadays, the client himself can do the whole designing on a computer, and the brochures can be made in a much shorter timeframe than they could be some years ago. With technology progressing rapidly, immediate printing of numerous brochures and their quick delivery within a day's time has become a reality.

One should remember that brochure printing involves careful consideration of features like content, graphics and formatting. With the advent of digital technology, printing companies have started to provide a range of benefits to the customers in this area, like high resolution colour printing, multiple options in complex layouts and designs, and smart packages on content-building.

Printing services companies offer many latest choices to customers, among which full-colour brochures and digital brochures are most preferred by them. These are generally appropriate for brochures which will be in use from medium to long-term. But when it comes to brochure distribution in large volume, but for a limited period, then colourful but brief brochures that have a brief print run fit the bill perfectly. To develop such brochures, nothing can be better than off-set printing, as a large quantity of prints can be created in a short time span, though it takes a little more time for all the preparations in this technique.

Along with the improvement in the standard of printing, additional services are now offered by most brochure printing companies as well. These include services like brochure design, direct mailing, circulation etc.

The internet has greatly changed the scenario, with customers now using websites of printing firms and placing online orders after picking designs and colour schemes from the comfort of their desk. Hence, brochure printing has undergone ground-breaking transformations in recent times, and the prospects of future change seem to be endless.
