Bed Bugs - Where They Come From and How to Get Rid of Them

By Vanessa Cook

Bed bugs cause unnecessary vexation to family members in numerous households. These annoying pests survive on warm blood, and if human hosts are not available then they attack household pets like dogs. To confront this issue, one must go for professional pest control procedures.

Travellers are mostly accountable for transportation of bed bugs, and once these bugs find a new habitat they multiply on their own rapidly. Holes and cracks in room furniture and carpets are the best places for bed bugs to take shelter and thrive.

An overwhelming majority of people harbour the wrong notion that bed bugs prefer places that are unclean. It must be remembered that blood and not waste is what invites these bugs and therefore keeping the house spotlessly clean does little to fight bed bugs. However, if the surroundings are kept sanitized, then the pests can be easily spotted.

Another myth about bed bugs is that they are too tiny to be seen without external visual aid. In fact, these pests can be spotted without any difficulty, yet we usually don't see them because they have flat bodies that help them disappear easily in narrow slits of furniture or layers of fabric.

They will normally bite once a week or so, and they can really live for a long time without eating - usually six months, but sometimes over a year.

Bed bugs in homes are best taken care of by experienced pest controllers, so it is advisable to engage the services of such professionals. However, there are some home remedies also to control their threat such as washing carpets, bed linens and other clothing items in warm water and then keeping them in the sun. It is necessary to plug all crevices in the walls and replace furniture that has holes in it, so that these pests don't get any place to grow.
